Port Columbus goes to Sumter for early 150th event

18Jan2011

A boat and crew from Port Columbus participated in a special living history event in Charleston, SC, on January 8. The event “To prevent the effusion of blood”, was hosted by a living history unit and the National Park Service. Our crew acted as hired boatmen to haul US soldiers from Ft. Moultrie to Ft. Sumter. It was a brisk day with a small boat advisory out, but it was a unique experience.

  1. Gentlemen,

Thanks again for entertaining my request and providing the excellent support for “To Prevent the Effusion of Blood” event in Charleston, SC the weekend of January 7-9, 2011. Unfortunately wind and tide were against a larger participation by your boats and crew. But even the reduced service rendered was a memorable addition to the event and a commemoration of the watermen who plied their trade in service of their cause.

    respectfully,

    Peter M. Berezuk
