Black History Month at Port Columbus
Black In Blue – African Americans in the Civil War Navies
In honor of Black History Month, Port Columbus presents an all-new tour and living history program highlighting the experience of African Americans in both Navies during the Civil War, through special collections tours, guest speaker Steven Ramold (Author of Slaves, Sailors, Citizens: African Americans in the Union Navy), and museum theatre performances.
Written and directed by Director of Programs Ken Johnston, these performances will feature actors portraying three African Americans involved in the battle for the USS Water Witch – one slave employed by the C.S. Navy, one freedman and one excaped slave, both serving in the U.S. Navy. See the Cool History Page for schedule details.
